About
Jason E. Thuener, MD, is a board-certified, fellowship-trained otolaryngologist at University Hospitals Ear, Nose & Throat Institute and an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. His clinical focus is head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction surgery.
Dr. Theuner obtained his undergraduate training at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and chemistry. He went on to earn his Doctor of Medicine at Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio. After completing a residency in otolaryngology at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio, Dr. Theuner further advanced his training, earning a fellowship in head and neck oncology and microvascular reconstruction, also at University Hospitals.
An accomplished and prolific educator, presenter, researcher and writer, Dr. Thuener lectures locally, nationally and internationally on topics related to his expertise. He is also the author and co-author of numerous peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters and has developed teaching materials for both medical students and residents.
Dr. Theuner is a member in good standing of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (AAO-HNSF), the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the Gold Humanism Honor Society and the Ohio Physicians Health Program. He was named one of Northeast Ohio’s best doctors by Cleveland Magazine in 2023.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
