About
Iris Sheng, MD, is a hematologist and oncologist at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center. She practices at both at the main campus in Cleveland and in Avon, Ohio, where she specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of genitourinary cancer and skin cancer. Dr. Sheng is board certified in hematology, medical oncology and internal medicine and is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Sheng earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the College of New Jersey in Ewing, New Jersey, and attended medical school at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey. After earning her medical degree, Dr. Sheng completed a residency in internal medicine at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Cleveland Clinic. Prior to joining UH, Dr. Sheng was a staff physician in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at Beth Israel Lahey Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Dr. Sheng is very active in clinical research and has authored many peer-reviewed journal articles and abstracts and has presented her research at national professional meetings and conferences. She also serves as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Sheng’s research interests include individualizing care and finding better ways to use already-approved drugs. She has designed clinical trials and has served as principal investigator (PI) on multiple clinical trials in this space.
Dr. Sheng additionally has an interest in immunotherapy and runs the immunotherapy database for all patients over the age of 18 with a solid oncology diagnosis treated with immunotherapy. She also recently started the multidisciplinary immunotherapy-related adverse events tumor board.
Dr. Sheng is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society for Immunotherapy of Cancer, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Association for Cancer Research. She also serves on the Society of Immunotherapy of Cancer’s Advances in Cancer Immunotherapy Council. Dr. Sheng has earned numerous honors and awards during her career, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology Merit Award, the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center Travel Award, the American Society of Hematology Abstract Achievement Award and the Chinese American Hematology Oncology Network’s Young Investigator Award.
