About
Layla Sankari, MD, is a pulmonary and critical care physician at University Hospitals, specializing in asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). She is also an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
Dr. Sankari earned her medical degree from West Virginia University School of Medicine in Morgantown, West Virginia. Her postdoctoral training began with a residency in internal medicine at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York. She then completed a pulmonary and critical care fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.
Dr. Sankari is an active member of several nationally recognized medical professional organizations, including the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society. She is also associate program director of the pulmonary and critical care fellowship at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Her interests include quality improvement and medical education.

At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
