About
View Dr. Ray’s BlogAbhishek Ray, MD, is a fellowship-trained, board-certified neurological surgeon at University Hospitals and assistant professor of neurological surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He specializes in caring for people with cerebrovascular disease (brain aneurysms, stroke, AVMs), pituitary tumors and meningiomas, and in minimally invasive techniques to treat degenerative spine disease.
In neurological surgery, there are often multiple ways to treat a single problem, and Dr. Ray is committed to providing each patient with an individualized care plan to optimize results. In 2021, 2022, and 2023, he was selected by his peers to be included in Cleveland Magazine’s list of Top Doctors.
After completing his undergraduate degree in biological systems engineering at the University of California – Davis, Dr. Ray went back to his hometown to attend medical school at the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Kansas City, Kansas, where he was elected to be an ambassador of the school and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He then went on to complete neurological surgery residency at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where he also completed fellowship training in neuro-interventional surgery.
Dr. Ray stayed on as faculty at UH/Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine to advance neurosurgical education there. He created a unique and comprehensive neurological surgery elective for second-year medical students, of which he is now the course director. He has been an instructor at national skull base courses for neurosurgical residents and fellows and has served as editor of the neuro-interventional section of CNS Nexus, an online library of neurosurgical cases to better prepare trainees for the operating room.
Outside of work, Dr. Ray enjoys spending time with his family, playing tennis, snowboarding, and watching his kids play hockey and figure skate in Cleveland.

Very good experience. Dr. Ray was a little late but it was 100% worth it in the end. My personal best experience with a doctor in years.
My experience with Dr. Ray was excellent! He always explains everything to my satisfaction. And ask questions and listen to my answers. He always take his time and never rushes through the appointment. He is an excellent surgeon who cares for his patients after surgery. This was my 6 month follow up with him.
My wife and I are very impressed with Dr. Ray. We are very happy with our decision to choose him for my care.
Excellent, professional & compassionate services & exchange with Dr. Ray
Each individual that I saw, introduced themselves: *** checked me in and was very pleasant. ***, the NP, did the initial exam, asked questions for clarification and was very nice. Dr. Ray, reviewed *** documentation with me, explained what the MRI showed, answered all my questions and provided a plan of care regarding next steps. I was very pleased with my interaction with all the named above. THANK YOU ALL!!!
Very good doctor took his time with me and answered all my questions
Dr Ray is very compassionate and answered our questions on behalf of our son who has disabilities in detail. His nurses and the secretary in the office have also been wonderful, both in the office and following up by phone. We feel very fortunate to have our son in Dr. Ray's care.

Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
