About
Susheel P. Patil, MD, PhD, is director of the Sleep Medicine Program for University Hospitals and Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is board certified in Sleep Medicine, as well as Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine.
Prior to joining University Hospitals, Dr. Patil served as clinical director of the Pulmonary Sleep Medicine Program, and director of the Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Patil received his undergraduate degree from Pennsylvania State University. He then earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College before an internal medicine residency at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center. Following a year as chief resident at UH Cleveland Medical Center, Dr. Patil completed his fellowship training in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Johns Hopkins, as well as training in sleep medicine. He also received a PhD in Clinical Investigation at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Patil has been active in numerous committees, with leadership roles in the Sleep and Respiratory Neurobiology Assembly and Board of Directors for the American Thoracic Society, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has organized or spoke in numerous scientific symposia at international meetings related to sleep medicine. He is the author of more than 30 publications and has given invited lectures throughout the United States.
Dr. Patil has a longstanding interest in the pathogenesis of obstructive sleep apnea, interactions of obesity and obstructive sleep apnea, guideline development, and approaches to sleep testing.
Dr. Patil was named to Cleveland Magazine’s 2022 Best Doctors list.

We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
