About

Amanda Opaskar, MD is a Vascular Neurologist at University Hospitals St. John Medical Center in Westlake, OH, where she serves as Director of the Primary Stroke Center. As a Cleveland native, her mission is to deliver high-quality stroke and neurological care to Cleveland's Westside. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, where she shares her passion for Neurology by developing and teaching the Neurology curriculum in the Graduate Medical Education program at UH St. John Medical Center. She also serves as a faculty member of the Stroke Fellowship Program at UH Cleveland Medical Center, providing clinical education to future vascular neurologists.

Dr. Opaskar completed her undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering, summa cum laude, with a minor in music. She then stayed in Ann Arbor to complete her Medical Degree. During her time as a medical student, she served on the Student Council as a class representative. She worked on projects such as reducing medical student mistreatment and enhancing curriculum development. She graduated with a Distinction in Education and completed the Path of Excellence in Global Health and Health Disparities.

Dr. Opaskar moved to Rochester, NY, where she completed her Neurology Residency training at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital, where she served as Chief Neurology Resident. During her residency, she developed a passion for quality improvement and worked on multidisciplinary teams to create innovative ways to provide efficient, high-quality acute stroke management. She then chose to return to her hometown to complete her Fellowship in Vascular Neurology at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
