About

Juan Manuel Moldes, MD, is a pediatric urologist and senior pediatric surgeon at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s. His areas of clinical interest include kidney and bladder surgeries, kidney transplantation and complex reconstructive surgeries, especially those that involve endoscopic, laparoscopic or robotic techniques. Dr. Moldes is particularly interested in the concept of surgery with compassion in the way he treats and performs surgeries on his patients. This translates into more humanized medicine and attention to what happens to the patient and their family beyond the medical problem.

Dr. Moldes earned his medical degree at Universidad del Salvador in Argentina in 1992. His post-graduate medical training included a residency in general surgery at Hospital Alemán in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and fellowships in pediatric surgery and pediatric urology at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires. He also completed a program in Management and Direction of Health Institutions at Universidad Austral in Argentina.

Prior to joining the University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s in 2024, Dr. Moldes served as chief of the pediatric surgery department at the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, which is the largest and most complex private hospital in Argentina. As an educator, Dr. Moldes has served as a professor, associate professor, visiting professor or teaching coordinator at such institutions as the University Institute of the Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires and the International University of Andalusia in Spain.

Dr. Moldes has been an invited speaker/presenter, moderator and teacher at international meetings and symposiums and has contributed original publications to various peer-reviewed journals. These include Revista Argentina de Urología y Nefrología, Acta Otorrinolaringológica Española, Archivos Argentinos de Pediatria, Argentine Journal of Pediatric Surgery, The Journal of Urology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. He has also authored book chapters for Panamerican Medical Editorial, Nephrological Association of Buenos Aires and other medical textbook publishers.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
