About
Joshua Lyons, MD, is a fellowship-trained general surgeon at University Hospitals and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery.
Dr. Lyons earned his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind., and attended medical school at University of Cincinnati College of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, followed by a fellowship in Flexible Endoscopy-Foregut. Prior to his medical training, Dr. Lyons was trained as an emergency medical technician.
Dr. Lyons is very active in general surgery and endoscopy research and has authored numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. He has presented his research at regional, national and international conferences and meetings. Dr. Lyons is a member of several professional organizations, including the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the Ohio State Medical Association.

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
