About

John Kozy, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon at University Hospitals and an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He specializes in joint reconstruction for people with osteoarthritis and post-traumatic arthritis of the hip and knee and revision surgery for failed joint replacements.

Dr. Kozy believes in open and straight-forward communication with patients that leads to shared decision making and comprehensive, personalized plans. A goal of his care is for patients to go through surgery smoothly with as little stress as possible, which he achieves through meticulous planning and employing the latest recovery pathways and patient-specific surgery techniques, including computer navigation and robotic surgery. His ultimate mission is to alleviate pain and improve quality of life.

After completing his undergraduate degree in aerospace engineering at the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Kozy accepted an officer commission in the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of Captain and flew combat missions in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. After honorable discharge from the Air Force, he graduated medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of California, San Diego. Most recently, he finished an additional subspecialty fellowship in complex primary and revision joint reconstruction at Northwestern University.

Dr. Kozy is a member the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Outside of work, Dr. Kozy enjoys playing ice hockey and watching sports, as well as hiking, fishing and exploring new places with his wife. He is a licensed private pilot.
