About

Diane Harper, CNP, is a certified nurse practitioner at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute. She has special expertise in the management of patients diagnosed with cancer and at risk for, or concurrently diagnosed with, heart disease.

Diane earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing from The Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio, followed by a Master of Nursing from the Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

She later relocated and took a staff nurse position with the outpatient oncology infusion team at Southwest Washington Medical Center in Vancouver, Washington. It was there that she took particular interest in the care of patients with cancer diagnoses.

After attaining her advanced practice nursing degree, Diane worked in the Center for Hematologic Malignancies at the Knight Cancer Institute of the Oregon Health & Science University Medical Center. She assessed, treated and managed care of critically ill adult patients receiving hematopoietic stem cell transplants and chemotherapy for hematologic malignancies in the inpatient setting. This led to other roles as an advanced nurse practitioner for Compass Oncology and Kaiser Permanente.

Diane continued to hone her skills as a medical oncology/hematology nurse practitioner and eventually relocated to Cleveland. Prior to joining University Hospitals, Diane was a nurse practitioner in the Taussig Cancer Center at the Cleveland Clinic, where she managed patients with cancer and comorbidities or treatment toxicities.

In her current role at UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, Diane assesses, treats and manages new and existing cardio-oncology patients in the outpatient setting. She coordinates care with specialists in oncology, cardiology and internal medicine to provide the best care for patients with overlapping conditions.

Industry Relationships

University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.

UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
