About

Julian Gatta, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon at University Hospitals and is an assistant professor of orthopedic surgery at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He specializes in hand and upper extremity surgery, and his clinical interests include the management of arthritic conditions, traumatic injuries, sports-related injuries, and post-traumatic reconstruction of the hand wrist, as well as the treatment of peripheral nerve compression disorders and the surgical treatment of nerve-related pain.

Dr. Gatta is originally from Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his Bachelor of Science in biology at The Ohio State University in 2012 and his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in 2018, where he was awarded the CWRU School of Medicine Alumni Award for outstanding clinical care. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at University Hospitals/Case Western Reserve University. Upon graduation, Dr. Gatta was awarded the Carter Makley Award in recognition of clinical excellence and leadership among the chief residency class. He completed a hand and microvascular surgery fellowship at the Harvard combined hand and upper extremity fellowship, training at Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Boston Children’s Hospital and Shriners Children’s Boston.

Dr. Gatta is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and candidate member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles on various subjects related to hand surgery.

Outside of work, Dr. Gatta enjoys spending time with his family, following Cleveland sports teams, and cooking.

At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
