He serves as the institute’s Director of Valve and Structural Heart Interventions at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center (Elyria, Ohio) and University Hospitals St. John Medical Center (Westlake, Ohio).
Dr. Esteves earned his medical degree from Serra dos Órgãos Educational Foundation, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His postdoctoral training began with a clinical cardiology fellowship at Portuguese Beneficence Hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil, followed by two fellowships in clinical angioplasty and interventional cardiology at Dante Pazzanese Institute in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Esteves also attained a PhD from the University of Sao Paulo and is currently participating in a postdoctoral program at University Hospital Center in Bordeaux, France. This program is focused on clinical research and procedural advancements related to valve and structural heart disease, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), mitral transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (M-TEER), transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR), tricuspid transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (T-TEER) and transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR).
Prior to joining UH Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute, Dr. Esteves served as an interventional cardiologist and Medical Director of Interventional Cardiology at Rede D’Or Hospitals in Brazil, the largest integrated health care network in Latin America. In addition to his medical practice, Dr. Esteves has been actively engaged as a proctor since 2015, training other clinicians in mitral and aortic valve interventions. Notably, he performed the first case of transcatheter tricuspid valve replacement (TTVR) in Latin America and initiated the launch of Valve in Rio, a successful medical conference dedicated to fostering education and collaboration within the medical community on structural heart disease therapies.
Dr. Esteves has extensive experience in the management of patients with aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve disorders. For his expertise in the medical field, Dr. Esteves has been recognized as a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and received certification in transcatheter aortic valve implantation from the Brazilian Society of Interventional Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery Society.

Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
