About
Manon Desjardins, BSN, RN, CNP, is an advanced practice registered nurse at University Hospitals Harrington Heart & Vascular Institute.
As part of the institute’s Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Center team, Manon manages the ongoing care of patients with heart failure in close collaboration with heart failure physician colleagues. This includes assessing patient symptoms, optimizing medications, providing education on self-management strategies, monitoring vital signs, coordinating care with other healthcare providers, and working to prevent hospital readmissions by actively addressing potential complications and promoting lifestyle modifications.
Manon earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing as valedictorian at the University of West Georgia in Atlanta, Georgia. She also holds a Master of Science in Nursing, graduating with the Highest Academic Achievement Award, from Ursuline College in Pepper Pike, Ohio. Manon’s compassionate dedication and clinical excellence as a nurse practitioner has been recognized with multiple awards and honors.
Prior roles included caring for adult congenital heart patients during admissions for procedures and chronic conditions at University Hospitals Rainbow Babies & Children’s Congenital Heart Collaborative, and partnering with patients, families and staff to care for patients in the coronary intensive care unit at the Cleveland Clinic.
Manon is an active member of several professional organizations including the Ohio Association of Advanced Practice Nurses, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Cardiology Clinician Network, and the Heart Failure Society of America.
Manon is bilingual in English and French. She spends her free time with her family, enjoying outdoor activities like biking, hiking, camping, ice skating or going to the beach. They love adventure and travel, bringing their two English labradors along for the fun. Originally from Canada, Manon and her family have a deep-rooted love of hockey. When she’s not watching her two children play hockey, Manon maintains an active regimen of CrossFit, running, biking and weight training. She enjoys listening to cardiovascular podcasts and learning about the latest therapies for her patient population.
Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
