About
James S. Anderson, MD, is a board-certified neurosurgeon at University Hospitals, practicing primarily at UH Parma Medical Center and Southwest General Hospital. A native of California, he did his undergraduate studies at UCLA and UC Davis, and received his medical degree from the UC Irvine College of Medicine. Dr. Anderson has been a Clevelander since 1986 when he began his medical residency at Cleveland Clinic. He has practiced in Cleveland and its suburbs for more than 30 years, during which time he has developed a deep connection with the North Coast and its people.
Dr. Anderson is fellowship-trained in neurotrauma (Allegheny General Hospital in Pennsylvania), and applied this expertise for 17 years in the Neurosurgery Department at MetroHealth Medical Center, at the time Cleveland’s only Level One trauma hospital. He pioneered minimal access spine surgery in the 1990s, and has worked closely with a major reconstructive orthopedic spine surgery center.
Today, Dr. Anderson’s practice is focused on the spine.
“I use my years of experience, my diligence at staying current in my field, and my relationships with many other spine surgeons to offer my patients the best options for their condition,” he says.
Dr. Anderson strives to treat every patient as if they were family. He collaborates with other physicians in the community to ensure that their patients receive timely evaluation and treatment, and when necessary, are triaged to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center.

Dr Anderson is a 10 plus when it comes to physicians and his level of respect for the patient. These days, patients rarely find a doctor who is genuinely and sincerely caring. He doesn't sugarcoat but speaks frankly and honestly. Very welcome this day and age!
Dr. Anderson & staff were polite, efficient and took the time to sit and review my medical issues and made appropriate recommendations.

Industry Relationships
University Hospitals is committed to transparency in our interactions with industry partners, such as pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device companies. At UH, we disclose practitioner and their family members’ ownership and intellectual property rights that are or in the process of being commercialized. In addition, we disclose payments to employed practitioners of $5,000 or more from companies with which the practitioners interact as part of their professional activities. These practitioner-industry relationships assist in developing new drugs, devices and therapies and in providing medical education aimed at improving quality of care and enhancing clinical outcomes. At the same time, UH understands that these relationships may create a conflict of interest. In providing this information, UH desires to assist patients in talking with their practitioners about industry relationships and how those relationships may impact their medical care.
UH practitioners seek advance approval for certain new industry relationships. In addition, practitioners report their industry relationships and activities, as well as those of their immediate family members, to the UH Office of Outside Interests annually. We review these reports and implement management plans, as appropriate, to address conflicts of interest that may arise in connection with medical research, clinical care and purchasing decisions.
