The Specialty Hospital (LTACH)

The Specialty Hospital at University Hospitals Extended Care Campus (Long-Term Acute Care Hospital, or LTACH) is dedicated to the care of the medically complex patient who requires extended hospitalization and would benefit from an intense rehabilitation program. The Specialty Hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JACHO). We have a high-observation unit and special procedures room in addition to specialized programs to maximize each patient’s recovery, including:

  •  Medically Complex  Care
  •  Wound Care
  •  Pulmonary / Ventilator Weaning
  •  Rehabilitation Services
  •  Respiratory Care
  •  Infectious Disease Care
  •  Hemotology/Oncology Care

  • Admission to the Specialty Hospital is prescribed by your physician when an acute hospital stay is no longer needed. Yet the need for medical complex care is necessary for a full recovery. The Specialty Hospital is a perfect match for any patient needing more time for recovery. The average length of stay at our licensed Specialty Hospital is around twenty five days. A clinical liasion is onsite at almost every hospital in the Cleveland area including non-UH hospitals to coordinate your admission to the Specialty Hospital.

The Specialty Hospital provides onsite daily physician coverage to oversee the care plan of each patient. An added benefit is the onsite physician is also apart of the multidisciplinary rapid response team to handle any emergency giving you and your loved one peace of mind. Patients come from all over Northeastern Ohio and Pennsylvania to receive outstanding care provided by our caring and compassionate staff.
