These studies are under the leadership of Dr. Bearer. The lab is presently focused on two areas: basic research into the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the damaging effect of ethanol on the central nervous system, and clinical research developing a biological marker for in utero ethanol exposure.

In addition, Dr. Bearer has recently received a patent for the technique that identifies the biological marker for toxic fetal alcohol exposure.
