A Message from the Program Director

The Department of Pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has a proud and long-standing tradition of providing training that has produced pediatric leaders at the local, national and international levels. In our constantly evolving and challenging healthcare environment, we recognize the critical role of the pediatrician as a practitioner, educator, investigator and child advocate.

Our faculty, which includes leaders in all pediatric medical and surgical sub-specialties, is dedicated to teaching and mentoring pediatric trainees. The faculty takes great pride in the success of our residents, and their personal interest in resident education creates a collegial work environment that helps residents build their knowledge, maximize clinical competence and develop independence in a supportive atmosphere.

Our residents receive unrivaled clinical education by caring for patients in our free standing children’s hospital as well as in a wide variety of ambulatory settings. This “at the bedside” clinical experience is augmented by a variety of interactive and didactic educational offerings, including daily conferences, educational workshops, seminars and research opportunities. We offer certificates (tracks) in global health, advocacy, research, and medical education and leadership for those residents wishing to enhance their individual knowledge in these areas during their training. Furthermore, our close relationship with the University Hospitals’ adult hospitals helps to ensure the availability of a broad array of technology and our relationship with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine affords opportunities for residents to serve as teachers for our medical students.

Our comprehensive approach to pediatric resident education allows our residents to not only become outstanding general pediatricians but also to excel in research, effect change as advocates, and earn the most highly sought-after fellowships. We look forward to showing you first-hand how our program prepares our residents, in a warm and supportive training environment, to become superior clinicians, creative problem-solvers and, above all, effective and committed advocates for children’s health.
