Few other centers have the level of experience in performing pediatric plastic surgery procedures as UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital. Our expert pediatric plastic surgeons have treated a wide array of patient conditions, from the most common to most complex. Our patients benefit from this wide knowledge base of effective treatments and advanced techniques.
Unlike most hospitals, our team offers specialized pediatric plastic surgery services. These include facial reanimation, which benefits children who are born without the ability to use their facial muscles. We are the first surgeons in Ohio to pioneer this procedure. Our team has successfully helped many children to smile for the first time by using tissue and nerves from elsewhere in the body.
A dedicated pediatric anesthesia team stands ready to help ensure patient comfort and safety during routine surgeries and emergency procedures. Our surgical anesthesiologists are specially trained to work with babies and young children. This team has perfected distraction techniques that put children at ease during the induction process.
Pediatric Plastic Surgery Conditions & Treatments
Our pediatric plastic surgeons are experienced in treating a wide range of conditions, including congenital deformities, facial paralysis and trauma.
Craniofacial Anomalies
The pediatric plastic surgery experts at UH Rainbow are leaders in the treatment and correction of craniofacial anomalies. These include conditions such as cleft lip and palate and other congenital and acquired deformities. Our program is accredited by the American Cleft Palate-Craniofacial Association.
Vascular Anomalies
The vascular anomalies team diagnoses and treats disorders of the blood vessels of the skin. These are typically congenital disorders including hemangioma and arteriovenous malformation.
Microtia & Hearing
Our pediatric plastic surgeons work together with audiologists, ENT specialists and others to diagnose and treat microtia. This congenital condition causes a baby to be born with a small, malformed ear.
Pierre Robin Sequence
Our team has expertise in treating the congenital condition known as Pierre Robin sequence. This syndrome causes a smaller than normal jaw at birth, the tongue to fall back in the throat and difficulty breathing.
Facial Trauma and Reconstruction
We are part of northern Ohio's only Level I Pediatric Trauma Center. Our skilled trauma team works together quickly and effectively when a child suffers facial trauma due to an accident, fall or other injury. Our team is experienced in performing facial reconstruction to restore structure and movement to the face.
