Caring for babies and children with serious illnesses and injuries

Watching your child with a serious, life-threatening injury or illness is one of the most difficult challenges you'll ever face. When you find yourself in that situation, you naturally want the best medical care and most compassionate treatment possible. At UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), we take care of more than 1,500 children each year who are dealing with a wide range of illnesses and injuries – from young oncology patients with rare tumors to babies recovering from heart surgery.

We are committed to family-centered care, with you as an important part of the team caring for your child's health. In each of our hospital rooms, a twin bed is available for you to stay remain with your child 24 hours a day – and even sleep at her bedside. Our critical care specialists will be close at hand for you both at all times.
