Research

Research is a fundamental part of the UH Neurological Institute with joint faculty at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) School of Medicine and UH Case Medical Center.

The CWRU School of Medicine is the largest medical research institution in Ohio and is among the nation’s top medical schools for research funding from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Together faculty members and physicians continue to be involved in research in all areas of the neurosciences.

Research highlights include:

Brain tumor vaccine
University Hospitals Case Medical Center is one of about 20 national sites involved in late-stage trials for CDX-110, an experimental vaccine that marshals the power of a patient’s own immune system to fight against remnants of glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer. Leading this study is Andrew E. Sloan, MD, the Director of the Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center.

Ivy Genomics-Based Medicine Project (Ivy G.B.M.)
The CWRU School of Medicine is one of nine leading institutions collaborating in the Ivy G.B.M. Project, established by the Ivy Foundation, a family foundation dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for patients with brain tumors. The UH Neurological Institute’s Brain Tumor and Neuro-Oncology Center and UH Ireland Cancer Center are collaborating with the CWRU School of Medicine and other top brain tumor centers in the United States. They are working to better understand how the genetic differences in individual brain tumors can predict the most effective treatment option for each patient.
