Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Center Diagnostic Techniques

Proven diagnostic techniques ensure that we quickly locate potential problem areas. These include:

  • Cardiovascular (CV) Imaging: including echocardiograms (ECG), stress tests, MRIs, etc.
  • Exercise stress test: a test which measures performance of the heart & lungs while they are under physical stress. The test involves walking on a treadmill or pedaling a stationary bike at increasing levels of difficulty, while being closely monitored.
  • Left heart catheterization: the passage of a catheter (a thin flexible tube) into the left side of the heart. The procedure may be performed to obtain diagnostic information about the left side of the heart or to treat certain types of heart conditions.

Advanced therapies, leading expertise, and our unwavering dedication offer hope.

We offer several therapies for advanced heart failure, including:

  • Disease management: as you recover at home, a nurse clinician will regularly monitor your condition over the phone. Later on, you will be educated on how to monitor your own progress and know when it is time to call your doctor.
  • Heart transplantation: a surgical procedure to remove a damaged or diseased heart and replace it with a healthy donor heart.
  • Ventricular assist device (VAD): a pump that helps a failing heart deliver blood to the rest of body.
  • Clinical trials: research intended to answer specific questions about new therapies or new ways of using established treatments.
  • Continuous inotropic support: powerful medications that add squeeze to the heart muscle.
  • Ultrafiltration: the filtration of a colloidal (gelatinous or mucinous) substance through a semipermeable medium that allows only small molecules through.
