Welcome

Welcome to the UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital residency program!

The Department of Pediatrics at UH Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital and Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine has a proud and long-standing tradition of providing training that has produced pediatric leaders at the local, national, and international levels. In our constantly evolving and challenging health care environment, we recognize the critical role or the pediatrician as a practitioner, educator, investigator, consultant, and family counselor.

Our faculty, which includes leaders in all pediatric medical and surgical sub-specialties, is dedicated to teaching and mentoring pediatric trainees. The faculty takes great pride in the success of our residents, and their personal interest in resident education creates a collegial work environment that helps residents build their knowledge, develop independence, and maximize clinical competence in a supportive atmosphere.

Our residents receive unrivaled clinical education by caring for patients in our state-of-the-art children’s hospital as well as in a wide variety of ambulatory settings. This "at the bedside" clinical experience is augmented by a variety of interactive and didactic educational offerings, including daily conferences, educational workshops, seminars, and research opportunities. Furthermore, our close relationship with the adult hospital and school of medicine helps to ensure the availability of a broad array of technology, subspecialty consultation services, and opportunities for residents to serve as educators for our outstanding medical students.

UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital's leadership shares the pediatric faculty’s view that the residency program is a cornerstone of the hospital's mission. Our collaborative training environment aims to support every resident’s individual goals for his or her career development. Residents are consistently the driving force for ongoing changes and improvements to our program – we actively seek to meet residents' needs and take particular pride in the approachability and openness of our program directors and chief residents.

Our comprehensive approach to pediatric resident education allows our residents to become leaders in primary care, excel in research, effect change as advocates, and earn the most highly sought-after fellowships. We look forward to showing you first-hand how our program prepares our residents, in a warm and supportive training environment, to become superior clinicians, creative problem-solvers, and, above all, effective and committed advocates for children's health.
