The University Hospitals Harrington-McLaughlin Heart & Vascular Institute's Advanced Heart Failure & Transplant Center is made up of diverse specialists with broad experience and highly advanced training in the most challenging cardiovascular problems, often treating those who were considered "no option" patients.
As pioneers in the field, we are the first institution in Ohio to implant the Jarvik 2000 and Impella investigational heart pumps.
Some of the conditions we treat include:
- Idiopathic cardiomyopathy
- diastolic dysfunction
- heart failure from valvular disease
- rare cardiomyopathies (hypertrophic, restrictive) and inherited disorders
- pulmonary hypertension
- congenital heart disease (adult)
Patients who have those conditions and other severe forms of heart disease require quick and aggressive medical and surgical treatments that we are prepared to discuss and take action on.
We provide many treatments, including:
- angioplasty and stenting
- transmyocardial laser revascularization
- high risk mitral valve repair
- coronary artery bypass
- "redo" heart surgery
- aorta and aortic-valve replacement
- cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory assist devices for certain patients
Among our other services, we also offer advanced diagnostic testing, such as:
- Echocardiography
- cardiac catheterization
- stress testing
- cardiopulmonary exercise testing
- nuclear cardiology, MRI, CT scans, CT coronary angiography
- myocardial viability testing by positron emission tomography (PET)
