Taking care of our patients is our first and most important priority. Our patients’ welfare is at the heart of our efforts in everything we do at University Hospitals.
We measure our success, both in our mission to be a multicultural organization and our efforts to recruit and retain exceptional medical staff, by the level of care our patients experience when they walk through our door.
Because of UH Doctors, We Feel Cared For
LaTrease Matthews says that her family members have been patients of the University Hospitals Otis Moss Jr. Health Center since it opened over 10 years ago. While Matthews lives with her husband Charles and their five children in Maple Heights, Ohio, she says they are happy to travel to the health center located in Cleveland. They describe the care received there as “excellent.” She explains, “At the center, they’re not just concerned with your health, it’s also about your mind, your body and spirit. You feel nothing but love from the staff there.”
The Matthews’ 6-year-old son Tyler was diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 13 months. Ms. Matthews said she knew nothing about epilepsy, but the doctors provided her with information and answered all of her questions. The doctors also encouraged her to keep a journal that helped her to better monitor her son’s condition.
Ms. Matthews says midnight calls to the center to report an illness never go unanswered. “Before the night is out, someone is calling me back to discuss our medical concern,” she says. “It’s personal, it’s not like the doctors are just there to do a job. The doctors and staff really care about us and they work closely with our entire family.” When
asked what she liked most about the medical services her family receives from the Otis Moss Jr. Health Center she responded, “Four things…great communication with the doctors and staff, attention, warmth and love.”
